Grant County Youth Baseball

Tee-ball Division Rules

The Standing rules may be altered or amended at any regular or special meeting of the board of directors by a majority vote of members that are present to voting.  Unless other wise noted in the following rules we follow the rules of our chartering organization.

  1. The Tee-ball draft will be a “blind draft”.  The board will assign players to each team to ensure they are equal with children from each age group to ensure league parity.  The board will ensure that siblings are on the same team for convenience to the parents.  After player placement is complete the team will be assigned to a manager.
  2. The board must monitor any attempt by managers and parents to manipulate the system and thus create an imbalance in the league.  Any and all player trades must be for justifiable reasons.

  3. Tee-ball games will be a maximum of 3 innings.  A time of 1 hour and 15 minutes will be imposed on all regular season Tee-ball games.  If after three innings or time limit the game is over and listed as tie in league standings.

  4. Defensive Coaches:  There may be three (3) defensive coaches allowed on the field during play.  All other coaches, managers, volunteers must remain in the dugout.

  5. Offensive Coaches:  Offensive coaches are permitted in the coaching boxes and at home plate for instructing the hitter.  Base coaches must stay in the coach’s box and may not physically assist the base runner while the ball is in play.

  6. Defensive Players:

a). The catcher must be positioned a safe distance behind home plate.

b). All other infielders must be positioned at their assigned positions.

c). Distance for bases will be 50’.

d). Pitcher must be on pitchers mound until the ball is hit.

e). Pitchers mound is 40’ from home plate.

f). Only six (6) infielders are allowed, including the catcher.

g). All other players on the roster must stay in the outfield grass until the

                        ball is put into play.

h). All defensive players must be in fair territory prior to the ball being

                        put into play.

i).  Each player on the team must play a different defensive position on

the field each inning; each player must play at least one inning at an

      infield position.

j).  Each player must play their own position, for example. If a ball is hit

to the third baseman, he can field it and tag third base if there is a force

play. The third baseman cannot field a ball and then run to second and

get a force out. He must throw the ball, this keeps all kids involved in

the game. It also enhances their learning to catch and throw. This
applies to all players, even the pitcher. The pitcher can run to no bases

for a force or tag out, they must throw the ball. The only person who

can force or tag a player out at home plate is the catcher.

k).  There is no rolling the ball to a base to get an out. Players must be

taught to throw in the proper manner.

  1. Players will have the choice at coach’s desecration when they come to the plate.

They can hit off the machine or the tee, this must be monitored by the coach to ensure the player is not at risk.  They will receive up to three pitches off the machine.  If they have not hit the ball, then it will be placed on the tee.  The pitching machine will be set at 30 MPH.

  1. A continuous batting order that includes all players on the team will be used.  If a child becomes ill, injured, or must leave the game sire during the game, the team will skip over his/her time at bat without penalty.  If the player is later able to return, then they will be inserted into their original spot in the batting order.  If a player arrives after the game has started, the manager, if he chooses to allow the player to participate, must add this player to the bottom of the batting line-up.
  2. There are no strikeouts in tee-ball.  The ball must be hit in fair territory and travel a distance of twenty feet.  The coach instructing the batter is responsible for picking up the bat and moving the tee after the ball is hit into play.
  3. No bat slinging, if player throws bat outside the circle the player will be called out.
  4. No on deck circle (batting warm-up).  No batter will be allowed outside the dugout until time to bat.  No bats are allowed in the dugout.
  5. All batters and base runners are required to wear helmets with league approved face mask.
  6. Overthrows and missed throws to a base:

a). When a defensive player misses a thrown ball at a base in which a play

is being made, all runners may advance one additional base (only) at

risk of getting out.  If the runner or runners reach the additional base

safely, he or she may advance no further and the play is dead.

b). Time will be called when the defensive team has possession of the ball

on the infield and the lead runner has reached the next base.  When the

defensive team has control of the ball any runner that is between bases

will have to return to the previous base if not already more than half

                      way to the next base.

  1. When the last batter hits all runners will continue to run the bases until an out is

made.  At that point the runners will stop and all runs that crossed home plate before the out was made will be counted.

  1. A half inning is complete after completion of batting through the entire team roster for that game.  If one team has less players they can start a second round through there batting order until they have batted an equal amount of batters.  Then they start were the rotation left off the next inning.
  2. The home team will be required to have an official score keeper.
  3. The defensive coach will umpire and enforce the rules.  If a player is called out he/she must be taken off the base.
